Cutouts

For a mild head/custom cam car, will cutouts after the LTs hurt or help the car? We all love the ability to have an on/off switch to make your exhaust ignorant, but am I actually helping the car? I've read posts all the time that cutouts hurt ET's. I guess it depends on the setup.
What do you guys think?

I'm no expert, but from my experience with a cutout, it seemed to hurt my low end power. When i had it closed, I felt I had a bit more power off the line. I never did any back to back testing at the track though.

it will def. help if your running stock manifolds and 2.5 exhaust, now if your running a correct to your application exhaust with lt and such, it really wont make much of diff. either way with cutouts it will be overall quicker, faster and louder. if cutouts are hurting power, something else is off

I have always felt that cutouts have their place. But not for street driving. For all out high rpm driving they will help as the top end hp will see a gain. At the same time my experience is that they will hinder low speed torque production. As usual its a give and take relationship.
